All children love the Martial Arts.  You only have to look at the popularity of television series such as Kung Fu Panda, Power Rangers, Ninja Turtles, etc to see that.  Children love to emulate their heroes and that's great because martial arts training is a great way to help your child develop valuable life skills such as Discipline, Respect, Confidence, Fitness, Teamwork and much more.

The problem for the younger children is that they are not ready to start training in the regular martial arts classes until about 7 years old. They tend to struggle because they are not yet able to understand or remember the technical aspects of what they are doing and so they find it difficult to progress through the grading system.  Fot this reason, many of the children become disillusioned withtheir training as they see their older friends progressing much faster.  It knocks their confidence as they don't see any progress themselves.

So what is the solution?  Little Dragons, of course!

Our award-winning Little Dragons programme is a revolutionary way of teaching young children valuable life skills based on many of the same principles as our martial arts classes.  It is both fun and effective for the students.  Separate from the regular childrens' classes, it is like a "pre-school" for young martial artists.

 So What Do They Learn?
Rather than learn complicated martial arts techniques which are unsuitable for their age group, the children work on developing a core group of valuable skills which will form an excellent foundation for them to enter into the full martial arts programme when they are a little older.

Each class has a theme; it might be BALANCE, FOCUS, FITNESS etc, and the class is split up into several short exercises -often in the form of games aimed to develop these attributes in a fun and exciting way.  Studies show that children learn through watching and playing games and so our classroom drills and activities are geared specifically to that need.

Typical Dinky Dragon topics are:

discipline  *  fitness  *  co-ordination  *  teamwork
control  *  balance  *  agility  *  memory  * focus

We naturally try and work in sync with both you, the parents, and the schools as Martial Arts is something your child should take on throughout their life outside the centre (or "dojo").  With this in mind, we will award striped belts in class free of charge if we find out any areas of progress your child is making.  It could be better school reports, tidying their room or even being more helpful around the house.

We are the ONLY club Coventry to have been awarded the MASA (Martial Arts Standards Agency) kite mark of excellence, showing that all our instructors are black belts and above, all have the correct insurance, all have an approved coaching qualification, have annual CRB police checks and that our Centre itself passes strict Health & Safety and Fire Service guidelines.
